Natural Gas Pipeline Safety is a Top Priority for the DCPSC
The DCPSC held its second Community Hearing on Gas Safety in the District. The hearing allowed Washington Gas and Light (WGL) to update the public on its recent actions and future plans to address the community concerns about the need for improved public communications articulated during the Commission’s February 6, 2019 Community Hearing on natural gas leaks.

The Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia (Commission) launched its Fourth Annual Winter Ready DC Campaign in October with a Community Training.  The Winter Ready DC Campaign and Community Training provides the community with essential information about services available for District residents and steps to take to prepare for the upcoming winter. 
 
 
Utility Consumer Protection
The DCPSC’s Office of Consumer Services educates District residents about their utility consumer rights so they can make well-informed decisions about their utility bills. Consumers have access to an array of services from competitive suppliers as well as continued access to the regulated services of utilities.

Lifeline Awareness Week - September 9-13, 2019

What is Lifeline?
The Lifeline Program (Lifeline) helps make telephone and broadband services more affordable for low-income consumers. As a program under the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Commission, Lifeline provides eligible subscribers a discount on monthly telephone and/or broadband service. The discounts can be applied to either a wireline or a wireless service, but customers may not receive a discount on both services at the same time. The FCC rules limit a household to one Lifeline service. Lifeline service helps to ensure that low-income consumers can afford telephone and/or broadband service and the access it provides to jobs, education and other opportunities.

The DCPSC is reminding District residents to participate in Fix-A-Leak Week, March 18 to 24, 2019. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense initiative promotes water efficiency and conservation by reminding all Americans to check their household fixtures and irrigation systems for leaks.

The DCPSC was in full force at the Winter Policy Summit hosted by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners from February 10th to 13th. Each year, Commissioners from all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands meet to discuss the latest policy updates related to utility regulation and to hear from an array of speakers from federal agencies, industry, and advocacy organizations.
