Poorani RamachandranThe Public Service Commission Welcomes Ms. Poorani Ramachandran as the new Senior Electrical Engineer

Ms. Poorani Ramachandran joined the Public Service Commission (Commission) on July 24, 2017, as a Senior Electrical Engineer in the Office of Infrastructure and System Planning (OISP), within the Office of Technical and Regulatory Analysis. 

Prior to joining the Commission, Ms. Ramachandran held various private sector positions in the electric utility industry (National Grid), electrical manufacturing, and the engineering & consulting industry. Her diverse experience includes electrical design, various power systems studies/analyses, NEC compliance verifications, distribution engineering and asset strategy management. 

Poorani is a registered Professional Engineer in the District of Columbia and Virginia. She received a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Periyar University, Salem, India and Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. Her master’s thesis was entitled “On Line Monitoring of Sag in Overhead Transmission Lines with Leveled Spans.”

Poorani is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), as well as IEEE Women in Engineering.
