Washington, D.C. is a national leader in sustainability and environmental conservation. The District has the most aggressive renewable energy standards of any city in the country and the city’s leadership has demonstrated its dedication to combating the effects of global climate change and to realizing a clean energy future.
Clean Energy Act
The
Clean Energy Omnibus Amendment Act of 2018 represents one of the country’s most aggressive and impactful clean energy actions to-date and establishes the District of Columbia as a global leader in the fight against climate change. The act increased the District’s Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard, setting the District on the path to 100% renewable energy by 2032 and 10% of electricity from solar in the District by 2041.
Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard Program
The DCPSC ‘s most recent Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard Report shows that the electricity suppliers are complying with the RPS requirement. Pepco, the District’s default service provider, along with 46 other electricity suppliers, submitted compliance reports that show that they met the RPS requirements by purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs) and making compliance payments.
